Itinerary

Transfer from Naples airport to boutique hotel in Meta di Sorrento. Coach leaves at 7pm. Dinner at local restaurant.

On arrival at the hotel, to give you a flavour of the delights to follow, you will receive a welcome hamper packed with local produce including Limocello, citrus marmalade and a lovely present from the Rosaria Bonelli artistic laboratory.

Trip to visit one of the oldest pasta factories in Gragnano where the best pasta is made. You’ll see durum pasta being made followed by a buffet lunch with local produce. You’ll then be taken to the most famous archaeological site in the world, Pompeii, for a guided tour. This ancient city was buried by the 79 A.D. eruption of Mount Vesuvius and was rediscovered by a surveying engineer in 1748. Ruins here include the frescoed Villa of the Mysteries and Amphitheatre of Pompeii which is the oldest surviving Roman amphitheatre. On return to Meta you will have free time before dining at a local restaurant.

Your day starts at the Villa Rufolo in Ravello, one of the largest and most expensive villas on the Amalfi Coast. It stands within the historic centre of Ravello, a town in the province of Salerno, which overlooks the front of the cathedral square. The initial layout dates from the 13th century, with extensive remodelling in the 19th century. Afterwards, you will progress to Amalfi for lunch in a wonderful restaurant just few meters away from main, crowded Amalfi street, at the entrance to Valley of the Mill. After lunch, there will be an opportunity for a walk to see the waterfall or to enjoy some free time shopping before visiting one of the oldest organic lemon farms in Italy. Back in 1825, Salvatore Aceto and his family bought a small plot of land in Ravello, thus starting the activity of lemon producer and trader. The Aceto family established itself as the largest producer of lemons on the entire Amalfi Coast after the Second World War, defeating their Calabrian and Sicilian competitors. It’s particular type of lemon, the “Sfusato Amalfitano”, is unique in the world for quality and organoleptic characteristics. You will sample the lemons produce and their famous Limoncello liqueur. The final visit of the day will be to a short walk down the road to the Amalfi Paper Museum which is housed in an ancient paper mill dating back to the 13th century. This structure, unique in the world, offers its visitors the magic of going back in time and directly experiencing the ancient techniques of Amalfi paper production. Dinner will be at a restaurant on the return journey to Meta.

One of the trip highlights, an innovative Certified Organic Buffalo Farm. Having 600 buffaloes, they are one of the largest organic buffalo farms in Italy. Nicola Palmieri and his family pamper the buffalo with soothing music piped into the pens, and when the buffaloes feel they are ready, they line up on their own to be milked by machines. They can also take a shower or get a massage. During the visit you will experience the magical birth of one of the region’s most famous foods: mozzarella and afterwards, sample it with a selection of local produce for lunch. After lunch, it’s off to Sorrento to the Correale Museum. Architectural ruins, numerous collections of period paintings, ceramics, porcelains and outstanding wood inlaid pieces are throughout this home. The views from various rooms are amazing. The home is huge, even by today’s standards. The winding garden path is lined with large, old trees taking you to another breath-taking view of the Bay of Naples. Then you can enjoy some free shopping before dinner where you’ll be enchanted with some specialities at a local restaurant in Sorrento.

Maurizio Russo and his family run a 16 hectare vineyard planted in the volcanic soil on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. It is renowned for being one of the best organic family run vineyards in the Campania region. The family has worked these hills every day since 1948 to create a winery which combines the rigours of organic production with the warmth of Italian hospitality. After touring the vineyard, you will prepare and cook some of the most beloved traditional local dishes under the careful guidance of Ester. She will also explain the historical and cultural context in which they came to be, born of the passion for the land and its people. Five wines will be selected for you to taste over lunch. Following time set aside to rest and relax in Meta before you will travel to the last destination of the tour: Positano. Positano is a cliffside village set on the southern end of the Amalfi Coast. It’s a well-known holiday destination with a pebble beachfront and steep, narrow streets lined with boutiques and cafes. Its Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta features a majolica-tiled dome and a 13th-century Byzantine icon of the Virgin Mary. You’ll have the opportunity to spend time strolling through the characteristic streets, browsing shops selling the wares of locally designed, made and sourced goods. Positano has its own special style, like all the Amalfi Coast, characterised by brightly coloured cotton or linen blouses, head scarves and sarongs and flat, handmade sandals. We’ll then head off to the restaurant for our last meal together.

A day for you to explore the beauty of the area at your own pace. If you have ordered a car, you can spend the day directing the driver to your preferred destinations. We can suggest some interesting and beautiful places to visit.

After breakfast, the coach will return you to Naples airport, leaving the hotel at 8am.
